Group Travel Insurance COVID-19 Update (Jan 2023)
If you are insured for group travel insurance with insurer AIG, you and your eligible dependents will have emergency medical coverage, including COVID-19, for both essential and non-essential travel up to your group policy’s trip duration and lifetime benefit maximum.
AIG group policies do not include trip cancellation or trip delay coverage (i.e. you will not be reimbursed), however, if your scheduled departure is delayed for at least 12 hours due to sickness or hospitalization (including COVID-19) as provided by the Plan, or due to sickness or
hospitalization of your covered travelling companion, AIG will reimburse you up to a maximum of $500 for the extra cost of your one way economy/charter air fare via the most cost-effective itinerary to your next scheduled travel destination or original departure point of the same trip. AIG will also reimburse the additional and unplanned hotel and meal expenses, telephone calls and taxi fares up to a combined
maximum of $300 per day to a maximum of 5 days. To claim any of the above outlined expenses, original itemized invoices must be provided at time of claim. The combined maximum
amount payable for this benefit is $2,000 per Insured Person per incident.
We strongly recommend purchasing separate individual trip cancellation insurance via your travel provider or airline at the time of your booking in the event of a denied, cancelled, or delayed flight.
No reimbursement is eligible for any COVID-19 tests (e.g. rapid, molecular, etc.) that may be required as proof to leave or return to Canada. Furthermore, there is no reimbursement for any hotel, food, security or transportation associated with mandatory quarantine related to travel unless you buy an individual COVID-19 only policy.
Please always keep your group travel insurance or All-In-One card with you and call the travel assistance provider (i.e. Global Excel) of insurer AIG as soon as possible to coordinate medical treatment in the event of an emergency.
If you need to stay longer than the maximum per trip duration offered through your group travel insurance policy, please note as insurer AIG does not offer individual Top-up/Extension travel plan, Trip Cancelation, nor COVID-19 only policies, you may want to contact the following provider:

You can advise that you have been referred by Coughlin. You can use a COVID-19 only policy to supplement group or individual Travel and International student policies.
Please ensure you review the Government of Canada travel advisories before booking travel as they may change frequently, as new requirements related to travel may create out-of-pocket costs and availability of medical care may become very limited outside Canada.
